When you don’t drink, but want to be a part of the largest beer festival because your friends are going, it sounds a bit crazy. Believe us, it isn’t. Thankfully, Oktoberfest has a lot more to offer than just BEER. In this blog, we’ll tell you how to have a great time without having to jump the beer wagon.

Wear the Traditional Outfit
Although there is no compulsion on what you can wear, people prefer wearing the Bavarian outfit when in Bavaria. If you’ve been reading about Oktoberfest lately, then Lederhosen and Dirndl are terms you’ve probably read before. For those who are visiting the first time, Lederhosen is a traditional outfit for men. It’s basically a short with leather suspenders. Women wear Dirndls, which is again their traditional outfit. Also, if you’re wearing the Dirndl for the first time, you should know where to place the bow. The bow gives a hint about your marital status. If you’re single, the bow has to be on the left.

Drink Wine
While the beer lovers enjoy their Maß Bier, if you like to try some wine, your best bet is the Weinzelt (wine tent). They offer more than 15 different wines, along with different types of sparkling wine and champagne. The tent is open until 1:00 in the morning. At Weinzelt, you can enjoy the Prosecco and their live music even when the other tents are closed. If you neither like wine nor beer, see if the German Radler suits you. A German Radler is beer mixed with lemonade.

Relish the Knodels and Brezen
Germans love their beer, but they also love eating. If you’re a foodie, the must-tries include the traditional Würstl, Roast pork, chicken and the most popular Brezen (Pretzels). The food stalls are set up right outside the beer tents. To make sure your friends are not getting wasted drinking only beer, order some delicious pork knuckles and go for a binge.

Explore Bavaria
Oktoberfest is a folk festival that starts from 21st September to 6th October. At Oktoberfest, you’ll find people from different countries and similar interests. You never know, you could make friends with another non-drinker. And if you do, simply take your backpack and set out to explore Bavaria. Munich is the capital of Bavaria and has a spectacular architecture to wow a first-time visitor. Take a walk at the English Garden or go for a day tour to check out the beautiful Linderhof Castles.

Entertain Yourself
Oktoberfest has ways to entertain attendees of all ages. The fun begins when you see the beer fans do some crazy stuff after a few liters down. From dancing on the benches, singing the YMCA to falling off and getting wasted, you’ll witness it all. Entry to the beer tents is free. You’ll meet people from all over the world, strike a conversation and join them to do a Schuhplattler dance.

Enjoy the Rides
Oktoberfest offers some really cool rides for all the thrill-seekers, be it kids or adults. Here are some of the rides, you must try when you’re at the Oktoberfest.

  • The Wellenflug – Enjoy the view of the events as you ride up and down and go round and round. The swing carousel is for all ages. Children aged 4 and above can travel with their parents.
  • The Ferris Wheel (Willenborg) – Considered the symbol of Oktoberfest, this ride has been there since 1979. Up to 400 people can ride on this rollercoaster at the same time. The ride offers a unique experience, from Bavaria to Munich’s old town, It’s a beautiful view you won’t get to see every day.
  • The Toboggan – Whether you choose to watch others or ride it yourself, it’s fun both ways. In this ride, you have to glide almost 8 meters upwards before climbing the spiral staircase. The ride isn’t dangerous but is surely fun, as you watch people after a couple of pints show up the confidence to ride the conveyor belt.
  • Skyfall – Love Bungee jumping? You should definitely try this. The SkyFall is the tallest mobile drop tower in the world: The ride rises 80 meters into the sky and has been drawing crowds since its premiere at the Munich Oktoberfest in 2013. If you have vertigo, DO NOT try this.
  • Olympia Looping – Get ready to scream your lungs out. Being the largest transportable roller coaster in the world, this ride is sure to give you an adrenaline rush, you’ve been waiting for. The ride is 1,250 meters long with five loops. Speeds of up to 100 km/h can be reached by up to five trains, which can travel simultaneously and each seat 20 to 28 people
  • Feldl’s Teufelsrad – In the middle of the wooden arena is a large disc that rotates. At the command of the moderator, the group sits down, then the disc sets itself in motion – slowly at first, then faster and faster. As the fun begins, You’ll hear the sayings and tales of the moderators, which are sometimes rough yet charming in a Bavarian way.

You have more than one reason to enjoy this Oktoberfest. Explore, party, sing and dance with your favorite buddies in the traditional Bavarian costume. If you’re not able to attend this year’s beer festival in Germany, lookup for a local Oktoberfest in your city. Planning budgets, venue, promotion, taking quick decisions become your routine task once you’re an event presenter. But after all that hard work, can you really predict if your event will be a success? That’s not the case for Oktoberfest event organizers. Their events are successful year after year and get sold out in no time. Here are some really useful tips that are as precious as gold for Oktoberfest event presenters, irrespective of the type of event you’re hosting.

#GiveThePeopleWhatTheyLove
People attend Oktoberfest for a reason and the reason is BEER. Similarly, create an event that people will love to attend. If yours is an outdoor casual event, you can keep beer or wine for your event, since beer is the best selling drink and everyone loves beer. But if your attendees are passionate about music,  organizing a musical concert with a top-notch artist, will make your event a great hit. That way, your attendees are happy and get exactly what they want and you’ll have a sold-out event.

#Hype
The reason why Oktoberfest is so popular is because of the hype everyone has created about it. Create hype about your event by sharing it on social media platforms and use other marketing tools like MailChimp to send out email campaigns to your target audience. You can use popular influencers/celebrities/good speakers to get this done. When the right people promote your event on social media, you’ll have everyone talking about it before the event begins. Social media has the power to spread the word like fire and also to let the post go unnoticed. Use the right social media marketing techniques to reach out to new attendees. Also, you can post your events on our site for free to reach out to more attendees.

#AmuseYourAudience
Depending on the kind of event you’re hosting, you’ll need to find out what your attendees love and what can entertain them. Like Oktoberfest drives the crowds crazy with beer and entertaining music, you’ll need to know what your attendees will love. You can use our surveys to find out what are your attendees’ interests, likes and accordingly plan your events. Let’s say, for example, you’re hosting a car trade show this year, entertain the car lovers by giving them a free test drive. By the end of the event, you’ll have your event tickets and cars sold out in a breeze. Also, customize your online ticket store in the local dialect to strike the right chord with your event attendees. For instance, if you are setting up an Oktoberfest event in Germany, use the German language to engage with your audience. With Yapsody’s event ticketing platform, you can set up an event in over 15+ global languages which means your ticket purchasers can go through your event description in their local language. With our most recent update, online ticket store visitors can now select the language they would like to view the events even on their mobile devices.

#StealADeal
Whether you’re an amateur or an expert, offer great discounts to attract new attendees. If you plan your event well in advance, you can roll out early bird offer or buy one get a second ticket at 50% off. If you’ve arranged food for your attendees, you can give them a bundled offer. Offer a group discount and encourage large groups to attend your event. Large groups mean more tickets will be sold quickly. Use our MailChimp integration to let your attendees know about the crazy offers you’ve rolled out for them.

#GiveYourAttendeesAGreatExperience
Treat your attendees right, answer their queries, be it related to the booking process or about the parking facility. Use a ticketing platform like ours which provides 24/7 chat support for your ticket purchasers as well.
It definitely is a winner, because it takes so little effort to click on that little side window that’s always there and provide help to your event attendees in a single click! Eventually, it’s the overall experience that will leave them speechless. Oktoberfest gives its attendees great experience with the service, the beer, the food and the rides. It takes care of the interests of all age groups. Similarly, delight your attendees with a seamless experience with your events. A lot of factors can impact your attendees’ experience like the check-in and check out process, improper signages and lack of volunteers to help your guests. Using our online ticketing system, you can avoid chaos at the entry and exit. Our YapScan mobile app validates your attendees quickly, thereby reducing the queues and giving them a good experience right at the start of the event.

If you get these tricks right, you are on the right path to achieving a sold-out event. Want to promote and sell out your next event? Sign up with Yapsody and do it for free. We are offering some exciting offers so you can give your attendees the best experience through your events. Create your event today and avail a flat 25% off on your ticketing fee by using our promo code “OKTOBERFEST25”. Sign up Now!

Munich, known for the fine architecture, culture and world-famous Oktoberfest is one of the best places to visit in every backpacker’s bucket list. But if you can’t travel all the way to Germany to attend 2019’s greatest beer fest, can always enjoy a local Oktoberfest in a city near you. With 47 days left, event presenters still have the opportunity to replicate the original Oktoberfest in your town. In this blog, we give you a step by step helpful guide to host a local Oktoberfest.

What is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest is a beer festival that originated in Munich, Germany in 1810. The wedding celebration of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen turned out to be so successful that they decided to celebrate it every year. The festival brings together beer lovers and foodies to dance, drink, eat and have fun under one roof for 2 exhilarating weeks. Here’s how you go about it.

Define your Budget
Big events can take your expenses overboard or can leave you with a deficiency if your budget isn’t planned well. Since we‘re talking about a local Oktoberfest, create your budget keeping in mind the security, the cost of infrastructure, beer tents, live music and food arrangements. Allocate a specific budget for each activity and track your budget to ensure you have enough in case of an emergency.

Choose your Venue
Your beer festival will attract massive crowds, hence pick an outdoor venue. Once the budget is finalized, book your venue and offer your attendees multiple choices in the seating arrangement. Your attendees can either reserve a table with a certain number of seats or simply go for general admission if they only want an entry into the beer tent. As for the venue, it should preferably be in a remote area, outside the city. That way, you can get a bigger event space, easily arrange for parking facilities. It’ll also allow your attendees to enjoy a long road trip to your event venue, just like at the local Oktoberfest. Geotag your event location on the event ticketing system and share it on social media so your attendees can easily reach the venue.

Set Up Beer Tents
While the actual Oktoberfest has 14 beer tents, you can have as many as you like to ensure your attendees have a great time. Tie up with the local breweries and get the beer flowing in each tent. Just like the actual Oktoberfest, you can name each tent with a cool name and charge the entry for each tent separately. Every tent can have different ticket types, ranging from Regular to VIP tickets to accommodate everyone. To give them the original Oktoberfest feel, give your attendees an option to dress up like they would in Bavaria.

Turn On the Music
A beer fest without music is incomplete. The original Oktoberfest has a mix of live music, DJ and people singing. Organize a live music band or a DJ to get the beer lovers to loosen up and dance to the YMCA or hip hop numbers.

Food Stalls
While Roast Chicken and Schweinebraten(roast pork) and Pretzels are popular german food served at the Oktoberfest, you can customize it according to what the locals would love in your city. You can set up food stalls of different cuisines to give your attendees the best of food along with beer treats. Feast on your favorite beef steak or your popular local food to avoid getting knocked out after a couple of pints. Also, using our YapScan mobile app, you can check real-time sales of the event. Accordingly, you can combine event tickets and food into another ticket type to give your attendees a bundled offer at a discounted price.

Fun Ride
Few pints down yet head not spinning? Offer your attendees an experience of a lifetime with a thrilling roller coaster or something similar to the Toboganfun ride. Your attendees may not experience the actual Alpina- Bahn – the largest traveling roller coaster, but your rides will still leave them with memories they will cherish forever.

Ideal Event Ticketing System
Being a large event, choose a ticketing partner that will take care of all concerns. From promoting your event to selling tickets online, our low priced online ticketing system only has the best to offer. Using our online ticketing system you can easily validate tickets, set up multiple payment gateways and get real-time stats of your Oktoberfest ticket sales. We also support 15 prominent languages so you can host Oktoberfest in any region without language being a barrier. Set up your beer festival in any region with our multi-currency and multiple payment gateway support systems for event presenters across the globe. You can use our ‘Pass On Fees’ feature to make event ticketing free and pay the invoice amount at the end of the month from payment collected from your ticket purchasers

Ticket Customization
Let your ticket design reflect your brand and not be restricted to some ticket provider’s bland format. Use event-related imagery and illustrations to get your attendees excited about your event.
To go with it, create your online ticket store, your way. With Yapsody, you can customize your store design A-Z. Let your online ticket store reflect your brand so you’re looking great for your customers. On top of that, you get your own subdomain, giving your visitors the impression that they’re on a page from your website.

Promoting the Event
Event promotion if done right can result in a sold-out event in no time. With 47 days left, quickly roll out different offers and contests like the early bird offer to attract the beer lovers and foodies to your event. Use our integrated tool MailChimp to send out beer-themed invites directly to your attendee’s mailbox. Beer, live music and gigantic pretzels, Oktoberfest is an easy crowd-puller. It’s the largest beer festival in the world that attracts tourists from all over the world. From teenagers to old hippies, you’ll find people of all age groups doing one common thing, drinking 7 million litres of beer in 18 days. However, if this is your first time at the Oktoberfest, we have got you covered. Here are a few things you need to know about the grand beer festival.

Let’s take you back to how it began
Did you know that the original Oktoberfest was held in October in 1810? It was to celebrate the wedding of Prince Ludwig of Bavaria and Princess Therese of Saxony-Hildburghausen. All the fine locals of Munich were invited to join in the celebration – to eat and drink for 5 days. The celebration turned out to be so successful, that they decided to do it every year and extended the celebration into September adjoining it with the harvest.

What happens at Oktoberfest
Being the largest beer folk festival in the world, Thereinweise(named after the princess) witnesses more than 6 million people including Bavarians and tourists. It’s an 18-day folk festival celebrated around mid-September every year and ends by the first week of October. The ceremony begins by noon at the Schottenhamel tent when the mayor of Munich opens the first barrel and announces “O’ zapft” (means it’s open).

When is Oktoberfest?
Oktoberfest 2019 will begin on Saturday, September 21st and ends on Sunday 6th October. On weekdays, the tents are open from 10.00 until 12.30am. On weekends, the tents open an hour early and close by midnight except for Käfers Wiesnschänke’ – the log cabin and ‘Weinzelt’ – the wine tent, which are open until 1.00 in the morning.

Where is the Oktoberfest 2019
Oktoberfest will be held in Munich, Germany on Theresienwiese grounds. Arrive at the Franz Josef Strauss Airport in Munich, which is 41.8 km from the Theresienwiese.

How to get there
There are 6 ways to get closer to the world’s largest beer festival, taxi being the most expensive and the fastest(29 min). Although most of the take the same time, if you’re on a budgeted trip, go for rideshare. You can also take a direct bus departing from Flughafen, MAC/Terminal 1 and arriving at München Hbf. Buses operate every day and depart every 20 minutes. The journey takes less than an hour and voila! You are at “The Oktoberfest”.

What to expect & The best time to visit
Plenty of beer, locals singing, delicious food is a common sight at the all famous Oktoberfest. Apart from being a beer lover, if you’re a foodie, you can’t afford to miss out on these delectable treats like roast chicken, pork knuckle, sausages, pretzels. Among desserts, The must-tries include the sugar roasted almonds and the beef flavored ice cream. While weekends are mostly crowded, if you’re someone who prefers less crowd, go on weekdays. That’s what most locals do. The last week gets too crowded, so you can either choose to enjoy the fest just when it begins or somewhere at the end if you don’t mind celebrating with the crowd. Also, if you think flying to Germany is way too expensive, there are Oktoberfests happening all around the world. Be a part of an event closer to you and enjoy your drink as you would at the original Oktoberfest.

How do I get Beer Tent Reservations
While entry to Oktoberfest is free, reserved tables cost you money, especially if yours is a large group and not booked in advance. There are 14 beer tents of different sizes, 6 of them being large tents, that can house up to 12000 beer lovers under one roof. The popular and renowned ones include “The Hofbräu Tent”- internationally well known and a high energy tent, “Schottenhamel”- the oldest and the largest tent and “Hacker Pschorr”- with a mix of locals and tourists and “Augustiner,” perfect for big families. Every tent has its own system of booking reservations and sale dates. You can start by February/March the booking of tents from their online reservation system. If you’re late, try joining the last-minute attendees by going early to reserve your tables. The bigger the tent, the longer the line (unless you befriend someone ahead of you in line and convince them to get you in with them). If you like exploring, check out a few tents without reservation and then go for the one you liked the most.

What to do at Oktoberfest
While in Bavaria, do what the Bavarians do. Dress up in the traditional costume – dirndl (pronounced DEERN-dul), dresses for women and lederhosen (pronounced LAY-der-hozen), shorts for men. If beer is the only reason you’re here, jump the wagon and help the Bavarians clear up 6 million liters of beer. While you enjoy, try not to get totally knocked out with continuous drinking. You can do so by eating up the scrumptious Bavarian food from the food stalls placed around the beer tents. While inside the tent, let yourself loose, make friends, sing the local german songs and dance in groups. Apart from beer, there are wines and champagnes that one can try at the fest. If you’re outside your tent and need a break from drinking, try the petrifying roller coaster rides or play games like beer stein race, sausage sculpting contest and giant chess.

Lastly, (and we cannot stress this enough), bring only what you need! More than 5000 items are lost every year at the Oktoberfest. In case you do, approach the service center behind the Schottenhamel Tent and they’ll help you. We at Yapsody wish for everyone to have a safe and successful Oktoberfest, however accidents do happen. Become acquainted with the layout of the grounds and know where the medical tents are. Also remember that if you decided to purchase travel insurance, you will not be covered if you get injured while intoxicated. While there is some wiggle room here, insurance companies often void coverage if you are well into your cups.

The season of beer is arriving. Keep our guide handy and you’re set to have a gala time at Oktoberfest 2019! If you’re organizing an Oktoberfest of your own in your town? Sign up with Yapsody and get a whopping 25% off on your ticketing fees.
