Pinterest has become an extremely popular social media site which can be exploited for event promotion. Pinterest marketing is something many wish to try but is not really sure about. If you wish use Pinterest for social media marketing, read our comprehensive guide to making the most out of Pinterest.

Firstly, Pinterest is for specific people, so unless your event fits the general mood of people on Pinterest, there is no use promoting it there. Secondly, you need to create your own board on Pinterest before promoting.

Putting pins

Pins are a specialty of this site which you have to put on the boards. By organizing your board you can attract a lot of followers who are interested in the ‘pins’ on your board. It is an effective way of making lots of people interested in you event in a short period of time and sell tickets.  Your pins should be relevant to the event that you are promoting.

Hashtags everywhere

Hashtag is the most effective way of SMM and also tracking the demographics of engagement. One can’t do promotions in social media without hashtags. In Pinterest hashtags are of primary importance for any post to be noticed. Whatever is the subject of your event, you must add related hashtags to ensure that it reaches people who also use the same hashtags. With hashtags one can gain several followers in a single day.

Traditional advertising

Surprisingly Pinterest still allows you to advertise your event in the old fashioned way. Though the feature hasn’t been developed fully yet, but you can join the list of people waiting to advertise with them. It is similar to Facebook or Instagram where you find promoted posts. Similarly Pinterest wants to have a promoted pins feature that will make your pins visible to a lot more people and help event organizers to sell tickets online through the platform. This will be an extremely conducive method of advertising once it’s developed.

Have good pictures

In Pinterest pictures hold a lot of value. If you wish to campaign successfully for your event, you will need to have a lot of really good pictures. Look at any other company’s boards for reference.  Your promotion shouldn’t be blatant; it has to be garbed in something attractive. Pictures enable you to attract people and then you can promote your event to thorough these pictures.

Have a business account

In Pinterest you can have an account tagged as a business account. Here you can measure the various demographics like popular pins, viewers of your pins, etc. it helps you make a survey of trends and your performance in the site.  Used effectively this can yield a lot.

We’ve had enough of the regular Facebook and Twitter, and it’s high time we realized there’s a lot more to social media marketing than just blue and blue birds. While Instagram is giving its own edge to the hashtags, Pinterest has come out as a whole new concept on its own involving boards and pins, reminding you of high school. And we tell you exactly what it takes to be a famous cheerleader in this high school by using Pinterest the right way!

PINTEREST, THESE ARE PRESENTERS. PRESENTERS, THIS IS PINTEREST!

There, you’re already through the introduction! Let’s get you guys to know each other better by quoting some amazing facts. Starting with Pinterest –

  1. The age of an average Pinterest user is 40.
  2. According to 2014 statistics, Pinterest is the fastest growing social media platform.
  3. And it has seen a 66% growth in the previous year in pinning.
  4. Pinterest has over 72 million active users on a monthly basis, and as you read this, many more are joining it.
  5. This is the best one – Pinterest is second only to Facebook in terms of driving traffic to websites.

Moving on to the Presenters, there’s just one amazing fact – they are amazed at how terrific Pinterest is and are going to start using it the moment they’re through with this article.

NOW THAT YOU’RE INTRODUCED, LET’S TALK BUSINESS.

Think of Pinterest to be similar to Google, only it’s really similar to Google Images. Plus, it has a huge advantage over Google Images, because it won’t just return one image, it’ll return ALL images in your board. Imagine the kind of things you can showcase – infographics about your event, the venue, the cuisine, keynotes, and so much more!

You’re definitely going to build up boards around your event, so here are a few suggestions to get you started –

  1. Highlights of the previous events
  2. Keynote speakers at your event
  3. Sponsors and exhibitors
  4. Venue: give them photos of everything the venue offers – a good view, ambiance, food, everything.
  5. Place: tell them about the city you’ll be hosting the event in – the restaurants, tourist attractions, hotels and motels
  6. Available transportation – public or booked.
  7. Preferred clothing for the event
  8. Packing instructions, in case it’s an international concert event and they should be equipped with certain commodities to make it through the climate there.
  9. Create a blog board if you own a blog.

And remember to always make sure you put in relevant keywords when you’re naming the board. Always.

HOW TO KEEP IT GOING…

Building boards is useless if you’re not having a consistent pinning rate. For optimum benefits, try a pinning rate of 10-20 times a day, and make sure it’s not all at once. You can use Buffer for that, which makes using Pinterest a cakewalk. Also, make sure your pins are rich in keywords, and even though 500 words are allowed, try to make it as concise and crisp as you can.

Be a part of relevant groups because this will let you be a part of conversations, will give you good exposure and you’ll have higher chances of being followed by fellow members. You can use the PinGroupie tool to look for groups with a specific keyword so you can be a part of the ones related to your event. There are lots of groups with broader topics and quite a lot that are specific. Look at them as opportunities and make sure to choose wisely.
